Beckwith-Wiedemann Syndrome is a congenital disease associated with macrosomia, macroglossia, abdomianl wall defects, hemihypertrophy, neonatal hypoglicemia, microcephaly and musculoskeletal system abnormalities. The aim of this case report is to present our anesthesia experience in a 10 year old patient with BeckwithWiedemann syndrome in whom could not be intubated with external laryngeal manipulation with conventional blades and lma could not be placed due to macroglossia, and was intubated at first attempt using videolaryngoscope.

Perioperative airway management of a patient with Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome

Airway obstruction in pediatric patients always poses a challenge for anesthesiologists. Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome causes various abnormalities such as macroglossia and omphalocele. Patients with these abnormalities often need corrective surgeries. Management of difficult airway caused by conditions such as macroglossia in patients with this syndrome could be challenging. We encountered a cas...

Videolaryngoscope-Assisted Fibreoptic Tracheal Intubation in a Young Adolescent with Hunter Syndrome for Posterior Cervical Fusion

We here describe a videolaryngoscope assisted fibreoptic tracheal intubation in a 17-year-old patient with Hunter Syndrome (Mucopolysaccharidosis Type II) and known difficult intubation who required posterior cervical fusion surgery for cervical canal stenosis. The patient had a history of failed nasal and oral fibreoptic intubation. The use of a videolaryngoscope enabled continuous visualizati...

RESPIRATION AND THE AIRWAY Randomized controlled trial comparing the McGrath videolaryngoscope with the C-MAC videolaryngoscope in intubating adult patients with potential difficult airways

Editor’s key points † The McGrath videolaryngoscope was compared with the C-MAC videolaryngoscope in patients with anticipated difficult airway. † The C-MAC videolaryngoscope allowed a quicker and easier tracheal intubation. † This research adds important data to ongoing comparisons between various newer airway devices. Background. Difficult and failed intubations, although rarely encountered, ...

Randomized controlled trial comparing the McGrath videolaryngoscope with the C-MAC videolaryngoscope in intubating adult patients with potential difficult airways.

BACKGROUND Difficult and failed intubations, although rarely encountered, are major causes of morbidity and mortality in the current anaesthetic practice. To reduce the incidence of difficult and failed intubations, several devices including the recently developed videolaryngoscopes are available. This randomized controlled study aims to compare the use of the McGrath videolaryngoscope with the...
